Reporting a layout that looks wrong

The optimizer uses heuristics, so it can miss a better layout, and like any software it can have bugs. To make a problem easy to reproduce, please include:

  • Which tool you used: the sheet optimizer, the board calculator or the sheet counter.
  • Your units, kerf and trim settings.
  • Your stock list (sizes, quantities, prices and grain) and your parts list (sizes, quantities and grain).
  • What you expected and what you got. A screenshot of the result helps.
  • Your device and browser, for example "iPhone, Safari" or "Windows laptop, Chrome".

If you found a better layout by hand, a photo or sketch of it is very useful: it shows exactly which rule the optimizer is missing.

Corrections to the guides

Every figure in the guides is meant to link to the standard, manufacturer spec or dealer listing it comes from. If a number is wrong, out of date or doesn't match its source, tell us which page and which number, and link the source you are looking at if it differs. Confirmed corrections are listed in the changelog.

Suggestions

Ideas for features, materials, presets or new guides are welcome. It helps to describe the project you were working on, since a real example shows what the tool needs to handle.

Before you write

Many questions are answered in the FAQs on the optimizer, board calculator and sheet counter pages, and the methodology page explains how layouts are chosen and what the tools don't do.
