Changelog
Every real change to the tools and guides on this site, newest first.
An entry is added when something you might notice changes: a new tool or feature, a fix that changes the layouts or numbers the calculators give, or a corrected figure in a guide. Pages are not re-dated unless their content actually changed, so the dates here, on the guides and in the sitemap match.
If you open an old share link or compare today's result with a plan you printed earlier, the layout may differ when the optimizer has changed in between. A change to how layouts are chosen can give a different arrangement for the same cut list; the entries below say what changed and why, so you can tell whether to re-check a plan before you cut.
If a layout or number looks wrong to you, please report it. Fixes that come from reader reports are noted here, so you can see when a problem was resolved. The way the optimizer chooses layouts is described on the methodology page; when that changes, it is listed below too.
First version of the site.
- Sheet goods cut list optimizer: guillotine layouts for plywood, MDF and melamine with saw kerf, edge trim, grain direction, several stock sizes, optional prices, cutting diagrams and a waste percentage.
- Board cut calculator for lumber, trim and other material cut to length, with kerf, end trim, mixed board lengths and optional prices.
- How many sheets of plywood do I need?, which counts sheets from a real layout instead of dividing areas, with a worked example.
- Guides to plywood sheet sizes and actual thickness and saw blade kerf, with links to the standards and manufacturer specs used.
- A plain-language methodology page describing how the optimizer works and its limits.
